time to ask a question - mighty maloney
the magic 8-ball

last night, i had dinner plans with R&J. i decided it was rather pointless to go home first, so i killed time by staying another 90 minutes at work.

i wasn't feeling too productive and so i reached over to grab the magic 8-ball, a permanent fixture on my desk. i blew the dust off and pondered on a question to ask.

am i gonna find love on valentine's day this year? - mighty maloney

hmmmm.... valentine's day is next saturday. with hopeful thoughts, i fire away a question: am i gonna find love on valentine's day this year?

i give the ball an exhuberant shake, and turn it over for the answer.

"my sources say no"

are you sure i won't have a date next saturday? - mighty maloney

great. just great. that wasn't the answer i wanted to hear.

and so, i asked the question again: are you sure i won't have a 'prince charming' date by next saturday? i give the ball another shake.

"dount count on it."

i guess the magic 8-ball doesn't like me. at least, it was being honest.

am i gonna get laid? - mighty maloney

like any other perv, i had to ask this consolation question: will i be getting laid at least?

shake-shake. turn over:

"yes."

there we go. finally, an answer i've been waiting to hear!

time to ask a question - mighty maloneybut wait, i want to make sure i've got all my bases covered. i had to probe further. in doing so, i say directly to the magic 8-ball: 'i'm glad i'm gonna have valentine's day sex, but is it going to be great sex?'

another shake. anticipation. and the reveal:

"outlook good."

phew. a sigh of relief. now, i'm satisfied. whoever it is that's gonna give it to me next weekend, he's gonna give it to me GOOD.

anyone out there wanna share the mango sorbet in my freezer? will you be my messy valentine? mango sorbet tastes good on any body part. not only is it much less sticky than conventional ice cream, it's healthier for your system too. less calories! trust me.

birthdays & re-gifts

picture taken february 5/2004 - mighty maloneytoday is my roommate's 26th birthday. i was up at 1:30 this morning decorating the apartment. i took my time decorating for about an hour as i was careful not to wake him with loud rackets. now, i am lacking sleep. was it worth it?

i'm not too sure yet, but i hope so.

i've mentioned my roommate before. bottom line is i'm not too fond of him. we hardly talk. the very last straw was when he vacuumed his room at 9:30 on a sunday morning the other weekend. a few days later, i handed him my 60 days notice in writing. as of april 1st, i will be residing in another part of toronto.

why did i decorate the apartment of a person i could care less about? well, actually i do care. i know he's been a bit sad lately. it seems as if he leaves his medication of paxil all over the kitchen counter for the world to see.

maybe he doesn't expect me to know all about paxil, since i am such a "happy" person. but, there's so many informational websites nowadays. i mean really! but i know paxil all too well. i've been there, done that - five years ago. it was a very difficult time in my life, and i take solace to the fact that i can never hit rock bottom anymore. i now see everything with a different set of eyes. i'm a more fulfilled person due to it.

this is a partial view of the living room decorations - mighty maloneygoing back to my roommate, i know what he's going through. my heart goes out to him. i want him to know that there are people in his life who do care for him. perhaps, i'm not the best example. but i do hope in the least that i helped him.

i told R&J about my intentions, and they could not believe i was willing to go to this extent after everything that has happened. i told them this gesture was beyond me, and i shouldn't be selfish. but i do agree with them that i should draw the line at not giving my roommate a birthday present.

why not?

because he gave away the last gift i gave him. well, at least i think he did. when my roommate got back from vacation, i knew that he will go through a "depression" period. i figured he needed some cheering up and so i bought him the 'bruce almighty' dvd with jim carrey as a welcome back present. six weeks later, i have yet to hear whether or not he liked the film. the more that time passes, the more i suspect that he's given the dvd to somebody else as a potential birthday or christmas present. the dvd is not to be found anywhere. i considered that a big slap on the face.

i wouldn't be suspicious normally, but the surprise birthday present he gave me last november looked like a re-gift. i mean... what am i supposed to do with book of nude men from the 70's? it's just not the same as porn. nevertheless, i appreciated his effort at the time. and right now, i have no expectations of keeping a "friendship" with him after i move out.

my roommate was all smiles this morning. my gesture was pleasantly unexpected. he might not be popular in my books but that doesn't mean i can't make him feel better that someone did remember his birthday.
